Tuesday 5 July 2016 - Alcester Grammar School students’ Community Action Day spent at Field Barn
A group of fifteen students came to us on our volunteer morning but for the day!
A really successful experience for all concerned judging by the email we received from their coordinator thanking us for having made the day so varied. They all came with a very positive attitude and some bright sparks were a real tonic with their humour and brought smiles to the faces of their group leaders (our volunteers). Unphased by the manual nature of the work programmed for them they were kept busy in small groups that experienced different aspects of the Trust’s conservation work: removing stone from a reclaimed pond bank, clearing brambles from a mound that will soon have steps and provide a good vantage point over the Community Orchard, creosoting gates, removing ragwort and trying their hand at willow weaving making obelisks that will soon be on sale. In short, a splendid day with ideal weather. Even the teachers who came lent a hand. We look forward to being able to keep this very productive and mutually beneficial link with Alcester Grammar School into the future.
